Sprint became the exclusive home of the HTC Evo 4G LTE Android smartphone in early June, and that handset became an instant bestseller for that wireless service provider. However, at that time it was running on Sprint’s 3G system, as their yet to be launched 4G LTE platform in the United States was incomplete. But just weeks ago Sprint rolled out their 4G LTE wireless access across the United States, and the HTC Evo 4G LTE is officially one of the first devices to operate on that speedy system. To celebrate, Sprint lowered the retail price of the Evo 4G LTE on contract at select retailers.
With a super slim 0.35 inch (8.99 mm) profile and built-in kickstand that offers hands-free viewing, Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box and a large high-resolution screen, the overall feature set is very attractive for Android shoppers. With a one penny price that handset instantly became more desirable, and makes the HTC Evo 4G LTE for Sprint arguably the best Android value in the entire smartphone marketplace. That ICS operating system meshes with the Sense v4.0 Android overlay user interface to accept multitouch, capacitive gestures for device navigation.
The 4.70 inch display is one of the largest found on any mobile handset, and that Super LCD2 screen uses more than 16 million different colors to create visuals, displaying them in a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch. An overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels is present, and built-in light and proximity sensors help correct for the proper brightness automatically, as well as helping to conserve battery life. An overlay of protective Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance and glare reduction.
In the hardware package on board the HTC Evo 4G LTE a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package is present, centering around a speedy and powerful 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. This is the same chip found in the powerful HTC One X, and an Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing. The handset also contains 1.0 GB of RAM memory, and 16 GB of user accessible data storage space is built-in. A microSD slot is present, providing support for microSDHC cards as well, and accepting cards up to 32 GB in size.
On the back of the handset is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder which is one of the first to provide simultaneous HD video and image capture, recording video in a high resolution 1,080P HD. A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also present, and the handset is offered in your choice of either gray or white chassis. The full range Beats Audio sound system joins a YouTube video player and Stereo FM radio with RDS in the multimedia package on board the HTC Evo 4G LTE handset.
