A couple of weeks back, AT&T confirmed the rollout of the 1308 firmware update to its variant of the Nokia Lumia 920 which it released in US shores. At that time, the said firmware update was much awaited by users of the handset because of the improvements and enhancements it is expected to bring to the Nokia Lumia 920. Sad to say, the update when applied to the handset did more harm than good and there were numerous reports from Nokia Lumia 920 users complaining about the issues that started plaguing their respective smartphones after taking advantage of the said firmware update – the most notable among which is the intermittent and unreliable data connections often over LTE,
Due to the numerous complaints, Nokia was forced to stop the rollout of the 1308 firmware update. At the same time, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer confirmed that it is already on top of the situation and is already working on a fix which will subsequently be released on a future update. At the time of the announcement, there was no mention as to when exactly this update will be rolled out but we have confirmation that the said update has started rolling out today.
In fact, Nokia Care US via its official Twitter account has already announced that this update is in fact for the AT&T variant of the Nokia Lumia 920 and we quote, “*NEW* AT&T Lumia 920 SW Update 1232.5962.1314.0001 now available. Go to settings > phone update > check for updates.” With that in mind, you might want to head on over to Settings > Phone update > Check for updates to see if the new software update is already available for your handset.
Once applied to the handset, it will crank up the software version of the Nokia Lumia 920 to 1232.5962.1314.0001 and will bring the following goodies and treats to the handset:
- Improved automatic display brightness adjustment
- Fix for intermittent screen blanking during a call
- Improvements for connectivity issues in certain network conditions
- Performance and stability improvements
The changelog of the update is similar to that of the 1308 firmware update but the third point looks to take care of the connectivity issues that the previous 1308 update brought to the Nokia Lumia 920.
Despite all the issues on the Nokia Lumia 920, there is no denying the fact that the handset is one pretty capable device. Under the hood, the handset runs Windows Phone 8 for its operating system and this is powered by a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which brings to the handset a a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 1 GB of RAM. The handset has 32GB of internal memory for your storage needs while its display is a 4.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Its camera department is just as impressive with its rear 8MP shooter and front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
