As we enter into July, it is hard to believe the Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone has been around for eight months time. When it launched in the US in October of last year it delivered what was then, and is still now, one of the largest displays of any mobile handset. And its combination of a powerful quad core processor, true HD display, smart stylus S Pen and full-featured hardware and software package continue to make it one of the bestselling phones in the mobile marketplace.

There are also countless tips and tricks you can perform with the handset’s S Pen, multitouch, capacitive display and a wide range of features. One seems a little like it may be out of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. As you are looking at the display on the Galaxy Note II, it is actually looking right back at you. This allows you to use facial recognition technology to unlock your handset. After taking a picture of your face with the front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam, the phone “remembers” your visage, and then scans your face for a match each time you try to unlock the phone.
The built-in music player on the Galaxy Note II supports all major file formats, and it can even deliver music to match your appropriate mood at that time. This feature is called Music Square, and when enabled it breaks your music library down according to music profile. It judges each song to be either exciting, calm, joyful, full of passion or somewhere in the middle. When you pull up Music Square, a 5 x 5 grid appears on your display. Simply tap the profile which matches your mood, and a selection of appropriate music begins to play.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II also delivers some unusual filters for its rear facing camera, including a cartoon style filter you can apply to videos. And using the Air View mode means you can get a movie preview by holding the S Pen over the transport bar on a movie or video clip. Of course, we have all seen the commercials where data transfer happens wirelessly with just a tap of the Samsung Galaxy Note II and another Android S Beam device. To do this, simply turn S Beam on from inside the Wireless and Networks menu.
The Galaxy Note II delivers out-of-the-box talk time of up to 15.0 hours after a full charge of its extended life 3,100 mA battery. And using the Power Saving mode in the Settings menu ensures you get the most possible juice out of that cell. And while the smart stylus S Pen is an incredible piece of technology, if the phone is constantly searching for it, battery life can disappear quickly. Simply head to the S Pen subsection under Settings and shut off this feature when you are not using it for an extended period of time. These are just a few of the many multitasking and productivity options the big-screen Samsung Galaxy Note II phablet delivers, and the device is currently available for around $19 on contract on the Sprint 4G LTE system in the US.
