Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G Android smartphone launched on AT&T’s 4G LTE wireless network on November 6 last year. One of the first smartphones to arrive on AT&T’s LTE system, the handset debuted a quicker and more powerful processor than found on the previous generation Galaxy S II smartphones. Processor ability was cranked up 25%, and all global versions of the Galaxy S II handsets have sold more than 50 million units. The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket arrived as one of the flagship devices for that AT&T network, and still remains one of their best sellers today. The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G currently retails for $79 with a standard new two-year activation and data agreement at select retailers.
The Samsung TouchWiz user interface meshes with the Android operating system and multitouch, capacitive gestures are used to navigate the handset. Both thin and light, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket measures 0.37 inches (9.4 mm) in thickness, and weighs a very light 4.66 ounces (132 g), slimmer and lighter than most 4G smartphones. Without being bulky or heavy, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket delivers a larger than average 4.5 inch Super AMOLED plus display. The handset uses more than 16 million different colors to render visuals, at a pixel density of more than 200 pixels per inch. The overall display resolution runs 480 x 800 pixels, and standard proximity and light sensors conserve battery life and automatically adjust for the best possible display brightness.
Single charge battery talk time runs 7.0 hours, with 10.4 days standby. The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G Android smartphone uses a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon to run operations, and it centers around a speedy and powerful 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU. A separate Adreno 220 chip focuses on handling all graphics processing, and 16 GB of storage are built into the handset. The microSD slot supports cards up to 32 GB in size, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory rounds out the hardware profile.
The same high resolution Galaxy S II camera combo is here as well, consisting of an 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) and 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front). That rear camera comes equipped with a dual LED flash, and delivers autofocus, face and smile detection, geo-tagging, touch to focus and a panorama mode for extra wide snapshots. Recording video in 1,080P HD resolution, that camcorder also comes equipped with a video light for low light video capture. The front facing chat cam offers video call support, and Near Field Communications (NFC) is present out-of-the-box. The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is currently available starting at $79 at select retailers.
