Just last week, it was reported that Nokia was already in the final stages of preparation to launch the much-awaited 8779 post-Tango update to the Nokia Lumia 710. The source of the information was the company’s own NaviFirm servers where the said update for the handset was discovered. At that time, the details about the goodies and treats that this update will bring to the Nokia Lumia 710 are unavailable. Luckily, Nokia recently made the changelog of the update available so we already have an idea as to what this update brings to the handset.
The information was gotten off of the Nokia Connects website where the Finnish manufacturer announced the information about the said update. Once this update lands on the Nokia Lumia 710, it will crank up the software version of the handset to 1600.3031.87779.12180 and will bring cool features and enhancements to the device.
The first feature that the update will bring to the Nokia Lumia 710 is Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality. Looking back, this has been a long-promised feature for the handset and Nokia finally is enabling it on the smartphone via the update. With this feature in play, you can transform your Nokia Lumia 710 to a mobile hotspot and share your internet connection with up to five other devices or computers.
The second feature that the 8779 update brings to the handset is a Flip to Silence functionality. With this enabled on the handset, you no longer have to dig deep into the Settings of the handset just to silence the Nokia Lumia 710 whenever a call comes in. As the name of the feature suggests, all you need to do is to flip the handset to face down and it will automatically render its ringer silent. Cool, eh?
As of the moment, Nokia did not share any exact time frame as to when the 8779 update will land on the Nokia Lumia 710 but the manufacturer confirmed that it is due anytime soon. So if you happen to have a Nokia Lumia 710 for your mobile weapon of choice, be on the lookout for that notification that will come up on your handset’s screen to let you know of the update’s availability. Once this comes up, all you need to do is hook up your handset to your computer and fire up the Zune software to get the update process started and have it applied on your handset.
As for the Nokia Lumia 710, the handset relies on its QualComm MSM8255 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation. With this Soc, the handset has a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor and 512 MB of RAM to give it a snappy performance. Storage space on the device comes up to 8GB with no option to have it expanded while its display is of the ClearBlack Display-powered AMOLED variety with a 3.7-inch diagonal and resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The handset only has one shooter though and this is a rear-facing 5MP camera capable of capturing 720p video clips at 30 frames per second.
