Trendsetters always do well in the smartphone marketplace, and the HTC One X 4G Android smartphone is no exception. That handset arrived on the AT&T 4G LTE wireless network on May 6 of this year as the first mobile handset on the planet to offer the capability of simultaneously recording high definition video while also capturing still images. The handset’s overall feature set so impressed video dedicated website Videomaker that they awarded it their Best Smartphone of 2012 Blue Ribbon at the CTIA Wireless Industry Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana this year.
Aside from an impressive camera combo, the HTC One X 4G also delivers the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system, full range Beats by Dr. Dre Audio sound system and a powerful dual core processor, serving it all up on a large high-resolution display. You can purchase the HTC One X for as little as $99 at select retailers.
The simultaneous video capture in 1,080P HD resolution and stereo sound while offering the ability to take snapshots is delivered by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear snapper also delivers a back illuminated sensor (BSI) and integrated LED flash for low light camera operation, and has an f/2.0 lens which collects up to 40% more light than the standard smartphone camera. Up front there is a 1.3 megapixel chat cam which allows for portrait snapshot capturing and video call functionality.
You can broadcast whatever is on the large 4.70 inch display to an external HDTV or monitor wirelessly through DLNA connectivity, and the handset delivers wireless Near Field Communications (NFC) support for applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam out-of-the-box. Even with substantial hardware and software, HTC technicians did a great job of keeping the One X handset slim and light, as it measures only 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness, weighing only 4.55 ounces (129 g). The large 4.70 inch Super LCD2 display owns an extremely high pixel density of 312 pixels per inch which endows the screen with a 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution. That handset uses 16 million colors to create visuals, and a protective layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen.
Running the operations on the handset is one of the most powerful and quickest processors found on any smartphone, a 1.5 GHz Krait central processor that joins an Adreno 225 GPU in a Qualcomm MSM8960 microchip suite. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board and 16 GB of user accessible data storage are built-in. The handset recently received a retail price drop to $99 on contract at select retailers.
