Vizio is popular for their televisions, but is now in the business of portable tablet computers. Their newest one is almost here and will be running the Android Gingerbread operating system.
The high end television sets from Vizio are known for their clarity. Now they are bringing their screen expertise to the tablet computer realm. The screen size on their upcoming tablet is going to be an “out of the ordinary” eight inches. Most go from seven and then ten inches in size, so this Vizio tablet may be a “sweet spot” for tablets. The uncommon size gives the display a 4:3 aspect ratio. The pixel count is 1024 by 768.
This Vizio tablet was known in the past as the “Via”. Instead they gave the name to a custom user interface that Vizio themselves developed. They named the interface “V.I.A.” so the name for the tablet was cut down to simply “Vizio”. The tablet comes with a front facing camera for video chats or business conferencing. There is no rear camera. It also has something to complement their televisions. Vizio included an infrared remote. They claim that the remote control inside the tablet will work with 95 percent of televisions, not just their own.
Android Gingerbread is the mobile operating system included with the Vizio tablet. This will be version 2.3, which is not specifically created for tablets. Version 2.3 is equipped to include contactless payments. It is for sure that the Vizio tablet is not going to have the NFC chip to support it. Version 2.3 is also 450 percent faster than the earlier 2.1 version. The tablet is going to be upgradable to the Android Honeycomb version which is created to run on tablets.
The workhorse for the Vizio tablet is going to be a one gigahertz processor from an unnamed manufacturer. Two gigabytes of internal memory are pitiful, but a MicroSD slot is included to boost that. For an extra $20 dollars Vizio will include a 16 gigabyte MicroSD card and a custom case to go with it. The case can act as a stand to view the tablet in landscape mode.
The wireless connections are typical for a tablet. There is Wi-Fi up to the “N” mode, bluetooth and GPS. There is no 3G. Vizio includes three speakers for some nice stereo sound during movies and video. There is no DLNA, but an HDMI connection is included for hooking up directly to a high definition television set. Look for this to be selling for $379 dollars without the folio cover and flash card. Pre-ordering has already started for the Vizio tablet, and it will come to market by the 18th of this month.
