Acer is one of many smartphone manufacturers that are not named Apple or Samsung. Being so, they have to attempt to draw market share in some way other than competing with those companies’ strategies. Acer recently announced two new smartphones planned for launch this year that will attack the middle to entry-level segment of the mobile handset marketplace, much along the lines of the recently debuted Nokia Lumia 520 and 720 handsets.
Acer decided to announce the two handsets before the Mobile World Conference (MWC) expo in Barcelona, Spain, the biggest mobile industry event of the year. The two handsets are aimed at the midmarket smartphone shopper, and Acer was hoping to draw some attention to their two new offerings so they would not get lost in the clutter of the hundreds of smartphones displayed at MWC every year. The Liquid E1 and Liquid Z2 will run on the Android operating system.
The Liquid E1 will continue the trend towards large screens with a 4.5 inch qHD display, and will be powered by a dual core processor. Made for music lovers, the Liquid E1 comes designed with two speakers equipped with DTS sound for volume enhancing. The handset will also deliver a Float Caller feature designed to minimize interruption during your current operation. The handset will display a notification window for incoming calls and messages, allowing you to minimize or answer the call or message quickly.
The handset will also deliver a “zero shutter delay” camera of unspecified sensor size capable of 4, 8 and 16 snapshot burst shooting. The built-in Moodagent feature mimics the Mood Rings of the 1970s, and will design specific music play lists based on the handset owners moods and tastes in music. Liquid E1 owners can also stream music from their favorite laptop, tablet or PC through the AcerCloud file sharing and media management solution. This allows you to store, retrieve and share data and multimedia files across a wide variety of devices.
The Liquid Z2 is an entry-level smartphone with a 1.0 GHz processor that will run Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean OS on a 3.5″ display. The rear facing camera sensor will run 3 megapixel or 5 megapixels, and allows you to capture every shot by launching in less than one second. That handset also offers a quick mode navigation tool, extra-wide panorama mode, multi-angle mode, and the continuous shooting mode that captures up to an impressive 99 shots at a time. The two handsets will be targeted at first-time feature phone upgraders and entry-level to mid-level retail price tag shoppers.
