Android and Apple have a longstanding war for quite some time now. Its that time of the year again, where we see the debut of several flagship smartphone. Five years after Apple released the first iPhone, Apple has grown in leaps and bounds to reach its position today. However, the latest iPhone only shows that Apple is adopting a strategy of following the leader rather than raising the bar in releases prior to this. Despite these changes the final sales numbers are governed by the consumers alone and it is their opinion alone that matters. So here are a few alternatives to the iPhone in the Android platform.

First on this list we have Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note 2. People generally compare the galaxy S III to the iPhone, but the recently launched phone/tablet, with Android Jelly Bean at the heart of this device, this is a serious competitor for the iPhone 5. A bigger screen size is one of the trademarks of the Galaxy Note and the 5.5 inch long screen is surely an advantage against Apple’s 4 inch screen. A resolution of 1280X720 pixels distributed over the 5.5 inch screen sums up to a pixel density of 267 ppi. However size is not everything as the iPhone 5 sports a better density of 326 ppi, thanks to its resolution of 1136X640 pixels. Both these phones have 8 MP rear cameras with autofocus feature and a similar pixel count. The Note2 is also NFC enabled which was first seen in the S III.

Next on the list we have Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S III. Resolution is same as the Galaxy Note 2, but the same on a shorter screen implies a better pixel density. The S III also comes with a MicroSDXC for external storage (which till date Apple has failed to include). The SIII also has a removable battery. With a quad core CPU and NFC technology the S III has several advantages in its favour. The only area where the S III loses out is that it doesn’t have Jelly Bean. However, consumers can receive them through an update. Also the S III is a much cheaper option compared to the iPhone 5.

Last on this list we look at the HTC One X. Once the king of the Android platform, HTC is now looking to bounce back through the HTC One X. A 4.7 inch display with a quad core Tegra 3 processor, makes it a decent alternative to the iPhone 5. The larger aperture on its 8MP shooter certainly helps its case. No NFC support again brings down the phone’s value. However, at $99 on a 2 year contract, its worth the bargain.
