In the Galaxy S II, Samsung had a best-selling and award-winning smartphone that was globally popular. Imagine Samsung’s delight when they released the Galaxy S III to record-breaking sales, award-winning recognition and global popularity as well. Smartphone manufacturers will tell you it is very difficult to follow one of your best-ever handsets with duplicate success, much less delivering a successor that actually outperforms the previous bestseller. But that is the case with the Galaxy S III, the first smartphone to ever outsell an iPhone.
The Galaxy S III for Verizon is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $19.99.
In late 2012, sales of the popular Galaxy S III actually outpaced sales of the iPhone 4S, and that occurred while both handsets were available from the same carriers. That was the first instance since the arrival of the iPhone in 2007 where one of Apple’s iconic mobile handsets was not the best selling phone on the planet. This global popularity with the Galaxy S III has also driven record-breaking profits for Samsung, and though the handset is still one of the best performing phones in the entire mobile marketplace, online retailer Amazon recently dropped the price tag for the Verizon variant substantially.
The Verizon Wireless Galaxy S III in the 16 GB version is currently retailing for $19.99 on contract on Amazon, and the handset runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US. The 16 GB version is available in white, brown, black and blue, and a 32 GB model is also an option. Android’s Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system runs the show, and the handset is slim and light in comparison to other smartphones with such a large screen. The Galaxy S III for Verizon weighs 4.70 ounces (132 g), measuring just 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in thickness.
The display referenced above runs 4.80 inches, with more than 16 million independent colors delivered at the rate of 306 pixels over every inch of display space. The Super AMOLED screen presents a True HD screen resolution at 720 x 1,280 pixels. Corning has added a second generation layer of Gorilla Glass for scratch and chip protection, and social networkers will appreciate that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa applications have been pre-installed.
A full 15.0 hours of talk time can be achieved from a full charge of the 2,100 mA battery on board the Galaxy S III for Verizon. The chat cam built into the front of the handset can also be used for video calls, and the rear snapper runs 8.0 megapixels, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip is at the center of the hardware package, built around a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. 2.0 GB of RAM and a microSD slot are also on board, as is a built-in music player with preset and customizable equalizers.
You can purchase the Galaxy S III at a discounted price tag now starting at $19.99.
