Amazon is celebrating the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 with their annual year end wireless sale. At the Amazon Wireless store, the 16 GB Sprint Galaxy S III was recently spotted retailing at a price of just a few pennies on contract. That bargain bin basement price in no way reflects upon the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which globally was one of the best selling phones of 2012. Recently receiving an upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system, Samsung has added their TouchWiz UX UI Android overlay to the Sprint Galaxy S III.
The handset arrived at Sprint on June 21, 2012, but recently received a wireless system upgrade. Sprint launched their first ever 4G LTE system a couple of months ago, and that new, speedy network is now home to the Samsung Galaxy S III. Slim at 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), the handset is also light compared to other 4G smartphones with such a large display, weighing 4.70 ounces (132 g). The screen runs large at 4.80 inches, and is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
Resolution runs high, at 720 x 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is also high at 306 pixels per inch, and that Super AMOLED screen renders visuals in more than 16 million different colors. Supporting standard capacitive, multitouch gestures for device navigation, the Sprint Galaxy S III screen automates display dimming and brightness adjustment with light and proximity sensors that also help preserve battery power. Talk time runs above average at 9.20 hours after a single charge of the handset’s 2,100 mA battery. The Sprint Galaxy S III offers NFC wireless connectivity, and delivers popular social networking applications Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa out-of-the-box.
The hardware package on board the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III 4G is home to a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip set, with a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU at its core. A separate chip handles all graphics processing, an Adreno 225 GPU, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is built-in. The handset is also available in a 32 GB model, and a microSD slot has been built in for storage expansion opportunities. DLNA wireless connectivity offers video out options.
Built into the back of the Sprint Galaxy S III is a high resolution 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and joining it in the camera combo is a front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam. That chat cam can be used to place video calls and take portrait snapshots, and the rear facing camcorder is capable of simultaneous HD video and image capture. That rear camera also offers features like a multishot burst mode, widescreen panorama mode, autofocus and touch focus, as well as a special effects package, recording video at a rate of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD resolution).
