If there is any other company in the same part of the tablet market as Google, it is Amazon. In order for the company to keep up with Google, it only makes sense that they release new devices at least as often as the competition. This week, Amazon announced three new Kindle Fire tablets with at least one of them being priced at the same $230 as Google’s Nexus 7 II. A couple more premium tablets have been re-branded under the Kindle Fire HDX name, meaning they are arriving with better HD resolutions than previous models.
In addition to releasing the three new Kindle Fire tablets, Amazon is introducing a highly customized version of the user interface that it puts over top of the stock Android operating system software. The new version, called Fire OS 3.0, will be placed over the top of Android Jelly Bean. The first tablet announced was a revamped version of the Kindle Fire HD, which comes with the same 7-inch display, a dual-core processor and is priced super affordable at just $139. The new price should bring a couple of other companies down in price over the course of the next year as Amazon will undoubtedly take on more market share with that price.
The Kindle Fire HD will come with a new design and will be very similar to the Kindle Fire HDX 7 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 models. For a higher end tablet, Amazon has decided to really boost the performance and overall experience in the two new HDX models. Both of them will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which is clocked at a super fast 2.3GHz and will simply blow the Google Nexus 7 2013 in that department. Amazon claims that the battery in the new devices will last more than 17 hours if you are reading and an above average 11 hours if you are gaming, streaming content or surfing the internet.
The Kindle Fire HDX 7 comes with 16GB of storage, is a Wi-Fi only tablet and is priced at just $230. A Wi-Fi and LTE model will be released for the Verizon Wireless or AT&T networks. The larger Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 will have a resolution of 1560×1600, will be very similar in hardware to the 7-inch HDX model and be priced at $379, which will give Apple a little pressure with the iPad Mini 2.
