HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho spoke with a Focus Taiwan news site representative and other reporters on Monday, and announced the company would be making a successor to the popular HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone. The handset will be named the Butterfly, and will probably release at the end of this year or the beginning of 2014. The HTC Droid DNA 4G has been a flagship device for Verizon, and was recently spotted at the Amazon Wireless store online with a reduced retail price tag of $49 on contract.
The HTC Droid DNA is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.
The HTC Droid DNA delivers the exclusive Beats Audio sound system, a built-in YouTube video player, and NFC connectivity out-of-the-box. Built into the back of the handset is a camcorder offering a Continuous Shooting mode that catches up to four shots a second, simultaneous HD video and image capture and excellent low light performance. The 8.0 megapixel camcorder records video at 1,080P HD resolution, and is joined in the camera combo by a front facing chat cam. The Droid DNA 4G has been popular due in part to a powerful quad core processor, large high-resolution screen and ample RAM memory.
The Droid DNA is powered by the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and is slim and light. The handset measures 0.38 inches (9.73 mm), and weighs just 4.87 ounces (130 g). That slim and light body arrives in a durable polycarbonate unibody form factor, and is the home to a 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display. Pixel density is extremely high at 441 pixels per inch, and the 16 million different colors are rendered on a display of 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution.
The Droid DNA 4G is powered by a 2,020 mA battery that provides up to 12.6 hours of talk time and 14.6 days of battery standby power from a full charge. The handset offers 16 GB of built-in data storage space, and twice the average amount of RAM memory found on a smartphone at 2.0 GB. The powerful 1.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon CPU teams up with an Adreno 320 GPU to provide impressive processing power, and showcases the pre-installed HD fantasy realm game Reign of Amira quite well.
The Beats Audio sound package mentioned earlier delivers both headset and speaker amplifiers, and the music player built into the Droid DNA 4G is capable of filtering by album, artist or play list. The popular Picasa application has been pre-installed into the handset, and the Droid DNA 4G can effectively function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices. Video out options are provided by HDMI and DLNA connectivity.
You can purchase the Droid DNA at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
