The closest you can get to free when paying for a smartphone is one penny, and that is exactly what Amazon is retailing the compact and featherweight Motorola Droid Mini 4G Android smartphone for. For $0.01 and a standard two-year contract, you can purchase the Droid Mini handset, which delivers the Motorola X8 mobile computing package, a large, high-resolution display, generous RAM memory and “always on” touchless control. And Motorola has slated the handset for an Android 4.4 KitKat update in January.
The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at one penny.
Motorola has given the phone a natural language processing court which works in tandem with Google Now, Big G’s virtual personal assistant and search engine. You can wake-up the handset even when it is in standby mode, simply by saying, “Okay, Google Now.” The handset is then ready for your verbal commands, and Motorola has also designed Active Display for the Droid Mini, which minimizes battery draw by giving you notifications which only light up the portion of the screen which is needed.
Released in August of this year on the Verizon 4G LTE network in the US, the Droid Mini was the successful effort by Motorola engineers to deliver a large 4.30 inch display, while keeping the handset lighter, smaller and slimmer than other phones with the same size screen. That resulted in overall dimensions of just 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm), with an extremely light weight of only 4.59 houses (130 g).
And a full 28.0 hours of talk time on the Droid Mini handset is the result of a full battery charge, as well as two weeks of standby power, in spite of that slim and lightweight design. The back plate is protected and durable thanks to a DuPont Kevlar fiber coating, and Corning has contributed scratch resistant Gorilla Glass for the display. The 4.30 inch LCD touch screen boasts a pixel density of 342 ppi, which creates a True HD resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Motorola has included special proximity and light sensors which help conserve battery power, while at the same time automating certain display tasks.
The main camera is found on the back of the phone, a 10.0 megapixel Quick Capture camcorder capable of 1,080P HD resolution video recording. A chat cam is also on board up front facing the Motorola Droid Mini owner, and 16 GB of built-in data storage space has been included. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is present, as is a quad core graphics processor, dual core 1.7 GHz CPU and stand-alone contextual computing core. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at just one penny.
