If you happen to rock an HTC One S for your mobile weapon of choice, you might want to keep your eyes peeled for a notification that will let you know of the availability of an update for your device. Apparently, HTC is already in the midst of rolling out the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the handset. The said update weighs in at 157 MB and once applied to the HTC One S, it will crank up the software version of the smartphone to version 2.31.
Aside from bringing up the platform version of the HTC One S to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, the update will also give the smartphone a taste of Sense 4.1. With this newer version of HTC’s custom UI in the internals of the handset, the HTC One S will get significant improvement in its overall performance. Sense 4.1 is also expected to bring a slew of new features to the device such as quick settings in the notification curtain of the HTC One S. This new software version will also give a user of the handset the capability to remap its multitasking key especially if they prefer to use it as a menu button.
In addition to that, the update will also bring the EA Gamebox gaming hub to the HTC One S and will also come with a “remote control unit to repair by HTC” which is most probably a diagnostics tool. Those who already managed to take advantage of the update are reporting that the update also brings a host of stability improvements and bug fixes to the HTC One S so this is an update that you might want to download and install as soon as it lands on your device.
If you happen to have the middle child of the first generation of the HTC One Series of smartphones, the update is being unleashed over the air so be sure to check your device every once in a while for that notification. However, if you have no plans of waiting for the notification to come up, you also have the option to head on over to Settings > About phone > Software updates to manually check if the update has already landed on your handset.
As for the HTC One S, it reached official status when it was announced back in February but it only managed to hit the shelves in April. It has a QualComm MSM8260A SnapDragon chipset under the hood which gives the device a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1GB of RAM. Storage space on the HTC One S is pegged at 16GB but there is no option for memory expansion on the handset. Its display on the other hand is a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its camera department includes an 8MP shooter at its back panel and a front-facing VGA video call and self-portrait camera.
