Since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year, Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer HTC has already released a list of devices in its stable that will get cranked up to ICS. At that time, there was no word as to when the rollout can be expected to happen. Early this year, HTC confirmed that its Sensation line of devices will get its first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich this March while all other supported devices will get the jump to ICS later this year.
In keeping with its promise of an ICS update for its Sensation line of devices this March, we see the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update getting unleashed on the HTC Sensation XE making HTC draw first blood in the ICS update marathon for a non-Nexus handset. With this in mind, we already received confirmation that Ice Cream Sandwich is already being rolled out to the HTC Sensation XE in Germany and other Nordic nations initially. Global rollout of the update on the other hand is expected to follow anytime soon.
Since the update is getting rolled out via OTA, a notification should let you know once the update has already landed on your HTC Sensation XE but you also have the option to manually check for the update if waiting for the notification to come out is not your cup of tea. In addition to that, the update file itself is approximately 300MB in size so it is pretty advisable to do the update process via a Wi-Fi connection. And while waiting for the update to reach your device, we have the specs sheet of the HTC Sensation XE coming right up to keep you company and take your mind off the rigors of waiting.
The HTC Sensation XE reached official status when it was announced back in September but it wasn’t until October when the handset finally made its appearance in the shelves. The handset boasts of an aluminum unibody construction in a chassis that has dimensions of 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.5 mm and it tips the scales at 151 grams. Similar to the HTC Rezound, the HTC Sensation XE has a black colorway that has red trims that serves as accent pieces on the handset.
Under the hood, we see the fire-breathing components of the HTC Sensation XE that make it the flagship device that it is. Its operating system is powered by the handset’s QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset found at the heart of its circuit board. Computing power is provided by a combination of a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and full gigabyte of RAM while graphical concerns are take care of by its dedicated Adreno 220 GPU. Ts display has a diagonal of 4.3 inches and is of the SuperLCD with a qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It also comes with a VGA video chat camera out front while its 8MP autofocus shooter with dual-LED flash is found at its back panel.
The HTC Sensation XE is already as powerful as it can get given the fact that is once the flagship device of HTC but this jump to ICS only stands to make the handset even better than it already is.
