When looking at the handsets currently available in the market today, nobody would argue with you if you say that there is no such thing as the perfect smartphone. In fact, everybody is in agreement that regardless of how powerful the components are under the hood of a particular handset or regardless of how many units its manufacturer has already sold, there will always be issues and bugs that come up that will to a certain extent hamper the performance of the said handset.
These issues and bugs however are very easy to get rid of. All it takes is a software update and these will be taken care of. And this is also the reason why software updates are eagerly awaited regardless of whatever platform your handset is running on because these updates bring goodies and treats that improve and enhance the performance and stability of the said device. But there are also cases when updates do more harm than good and this is said to be the case for the recent Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update that landed on the Verizon Motorola Droid Razr Maxx.
We’ve talked to a couple of people who have already applied the update onto their handsets and according to some of them, they wish there was a way for them to go back in time so they could refuse to accept the Android 4.1.2 update that landed on their respective devices. Some experienced calls being dropped while others noticed that the widgets on their screens are no longer updating. There are others on the other hand who noticed certain apps that stopped working altogether. Another user also reported that the only part of his Motorola Droid Razr Maxx that did not get affected is its long battery life.
According to our source close to the action, Verizon has already been bombarded by complaints about the said Android 4.1.2 refresh it recently rolled out to the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx and is already working with Motorola to get this taken care of. If this pans out, hopefully the two companies will be able to come up with another bugfix update that will get these issues on the handset taken care of as soon as possible. We have already reached out to Big Red about this and will certainly let you know once we hear from them.
To those wondering about the specs sheet of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, the handset relies on a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset to power its operation while a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor is supported by a full gigabyte of RAM in generating the computing power required by the handset for its operation to be snappy and lag-free. The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx comes with 32GB of onboard storage and if this is not enough, the handset also has a dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. In terms of its display, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx comes with a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. Its shooting department on the other hand is composed of a main 8MP camera at its back panel and a 1.3MP video call snapper out front.

I HATE this new update. I was excited to get it when it popped up on my phone, but it has done nothing but cause problems! my text messaging system does not even work anymore (I have been a loyal user of Handcent SMS for 3+ years), and when I try to even use the default text messaging app that comes with the Droid 4, it still won’t send! My phone doesn’t recieve messages as well. My calls will not let me talk longer than 10 minutes before hanging up. And I have to constantly restart my phone just to get apps to work. If I could, I would go back to before this update was presented, and avoid it as long as possible. BEWARE!

Several problems here. When I get an email/text/etc., the little indicator light flashes red (like when the battery is low) instead of green. 4G connection is very spotty whereas it used to be very strong at my work and at home. Wi-Fi will turn back on when I just turned it off and it rarely works. The battery is draining extremely fast, about 50% faster. K-9 email doesn’t send my emails most of the time, some kind of java error pops up. I can adjust the volume, but the on-screen volume indicator/slide is either at 0% or 100%.

Simply a horrible update. Do the powers that do any in-house stress testing before employing updates? This update is absolute crap. I have to reboot my phone multiple times throughout the day because programs fail to operate and I must force close them. Ordinarily this little issue wouldn’t be anything more than a minor nuisance except it is affecting my home screen and I can’t access any parts of the phone until I reboot. Terribly disappointed.

Can’t check voicemail or even do a simple dial out. The second the dialer page pops up the screen goes black and refuses to relight, and the touchscreen fails to recognize anything. Also deleted my weather app and cleared 2 widgets and 4 apps off my home screen. Yuck.

WORST UPDATE EVER I updated to 4.1.2 and I no longer had a phone that functioned like the one I purchased.
It froze up and rebooted apps. 15 X a day
I lost speed dial was taken away
Group texting has been eliminated
Group emailing has been removed. To do either you have to add each recipient of the text or mail individualy. I am a salesman and these features are very important to me I use them every day.
I did a factory restore nothing worked.
Battery life was under 4hours
Finally Verizon had to send me a replacement phone which is running on 4.0.4 and every 12 hours it wants to updat the software. I keep choosing install later. I am afraid to update for fear that the same or similar issues will happen again. I don’t know how much longer the phone will allow me to refuse the update before it installs by itself. I have been doing this for about 5-6 weeks, does anyone know how long I can choose not to install. Right now the phone works great , and I would like to keep it that way HELP !!!
