The HTC One X as of the moment is still one of the most powerful handsets you can get your hands on in the smartphone market but only a few people know that the handset actually has the distinction of being the first handset in the world to be powered by a quad-core processor under the hood. This dates back to late last year when the handset was still known by its code name as the HTC Edge. During this time, quad-core powered smartphones were mere plans in the drawing boards of other manufacturers but the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer drew first blood and made quad-core powered handsets a reality.
The handset shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it was launched back in May but when Google unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at Google I/O in July, HTC was one of the first OEMs to come out in the open and take centerstage to announce its Jelly Bean plans for the handsets in its stable. During the announcement, HTC confirmed that the HTC One X will be one of the first HTC smartphones to get upgraded to what back then was the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system by the manufacturer neglected to mention a specific time frame as to when we can expect the update to land on the handset.
That time has arrived because HTC has already started rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the HTC One X. The update has already made it to handsets in India, Argentina, the UK, Russia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Brazil, and Sri Lanka and is expected to hit more countries in the next couple of days or weeks.
The update is being rolled out via OTA so expect a notification to come up on your handset to let you know once the update is already available. Otherwise, you may also go to Settings > About > Software updates to manually check if the update has already landed on your handset. A small update weighing in at 1.6MB will hit your HTC One X and once this is installed, the actual Jelly Bean update weighing in at 364MB will follow. This will crank up the software version of the handset to 3.14.707.24 and bring HTC Sense+ as well to the handset.
As for the version of the HTC One X that made it to US shelves, the handset relies on its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset under the hood to power its operation where a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM in generating the computing muscle required by the handset for a flawless performance. Storage space on the handset comes up to 16GB while its display is a 4.7-inch SuperLCD 2 panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Its dual-shooter configuration on the other hand boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera out front.
