As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean released a couple of weeks back during the height of Hurricane Sandy’s fury. And to give the smartphone-buying population a look-see of what this version of Android brings to the table, the LG Nexus 4 was also unveiled to showcase the wares of Android 4.2 to the whole world. However, due to the relative newness of the version, it is only available to Google developer devices such as the LG Nexus 4 while the rest of the other handsets in the market are still waiting for their chance to get upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Of course, it is only expected that Google developer devices get first dibs on any updates or platform changes Google releases because of the nature of their fully stock Android version which does not come with a custom user interface overlaid atop the OS itself to further complicate and unnecessarily delay the update process. Though some of our smartphone-crazed brethren consider Android 4.2 as Google’s latest and greatest, this version of Android also has its share of bugs such as the missing month of December in the Contacts app along with stuttering Bluetooth connectivity making the naysayers claim that this particular Android version has the most bugs since Android 3.0 Honeycomb hit the airwaves a couple of years back.
It is a good thing then that Google has started patching the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update while at the same time started the rollout of Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean to the LG Nexus 4. Several users of the current Google flagship device have reported that they already received the notification regarding the arrival of the update on their respective devices and a more massive rollout is expected in the next couple of days.
The Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean refresh weighs in at a mere 1.1 MB so no huge changes are expected but once the update has been applied to your LG Nexus 4, it will add the missing month of December to the handset’s Contacts app and at the same time fix the Bluetooth issues associated with this version of Android. Word on the street however is that the Android 4.2.1 refresh will also bring improved stability and battery life to the LG Nexus 4 but the absence of the update’s official changelog makes that pure speculation at the moment.
As for the LG Nexus 4, the circuitry of the handset revolves around its QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset which comes with a quad-core Krait processor running at a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and a staggering 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, the handset can be had in either an 8GB model or a 16GB variant but the LG Nexus 4 doesn’t pack support for memory expansion, sad to say. Display-wise, the LG Nexus 4 sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
