The HTC One X+ launched with Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, has a powerful quad core processor and a ridiculous 64 GB of built-in data storage. It also runs on the speedy AT&T 4G LTE network in the US, so it could certainly do well with an operating system upgrade to Android 4.2. We have been following the handset closely, wondering when AT&T will provide the popular and best-selling Android smartphone with an OS upgrade. It appears there may be some evidence that the HTC One X+ will indeed receive Jelly Bean 4.2 in the very near future.
The HTC One X+ is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $79.99.
Phandroid.com spotted XDA developer Shen Ye testing the handset with the Photo Sphere camera feature, which is a pretty good indication that he may be running an advanced Jelly Bean version on the device. He must have been asked to not deny or confirm any questions along those lines, because he would not disclose whether this is Jelly Bean 4.2 or not. He also would not disclose whether he was working with an AOSP based ROM version, or a leaked version of an HTC Sense Android 4.2 ROM.
However, if this is HTC Sense Android 4.2, then Photo Sphere will have been incorporated into the handset camera application. Either that, or Ye sideloaded a stock Android 4.2 with that camera application. We will continue to follow the progress on the possibility of an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One X+, but for the time being things are looking up for an upgrade in the near future.
Released on the AT&T 4G LTE network on November 16 of last year, the HTC One X+ has been a flagship handset for the company, and many industry analysts’ favorite. This is the first handset that actually combines LTE radio with a Tegra processor, and the new quad core Tegra 3+ processor is flying at 1.7GHz. Slim for a phone with such a significant hardware package, the HTC One X+ measures 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness, and is light for a 4G smartphone with such a big screen, weighing only 4.55 ounces (117 g).
The display alluded to earlier is a 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 model, delivering a 720P screen at 720 x 1,280 pixels. Pixel density runs high at 312 pixels per inch, with more than 16 million colors appearing on the screen. A 2nd generation layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen, and the handset offers a significant amount of talk time from a single battery charge at 12.75 hours. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and the HTC One X+ delivers a high-end feature package on its rear facing camcorder, an 8.0 megapixel model capable of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
You can purchase the HTC One X+ at a discounted price tag now starting at $79.99.
