When Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S III back in the early parts of May, we didn’t expect how popular the handset will get. We knew though that it will be received warmly by the smartphone-buying population. We just didn’t expect that its popularity will soar to unprecedented heights. In fact, such is the popularity of the handset that preorders for the handset reached a staggering 9 million units after just a couple of days of being announced.

Due to this overwhelming demand for the handset, Samsung experienced challenges in coming up with the required inventory of the Galaxy S III to take care of the demand. When news about this came out, it was already a foregone conclusion that there will be delays in the release of the Samsung Galaxy S III and this delay will be experienced on a global scale.
Take the case of the Canadian version of the handset for example. The Samsung Galaxy S III was supposed to be launched by all Canadian wireless providers last June 20 but as confirmed by Samsung Canada back then, the launch of the handset has been pushed back by 7 days so the release of the superphone north of the border happened on June 27 instead. Though this may be the case, it is still very difficult to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S III off of the shelves even if the handset is already officially available there.
This is also the case in US shores where the handset is being offered by all major carriers in our side of the world. All of these carriers experienced delays in launching the handset one way or the other. However, subscribers of Sprint who rock the handset are luckier than most.
Due t the delay, most of the smartphone-buying population in our side of the world are just getting their hands on the handset. While most wireless providers in US shores haven’t done anything yet to show some update love to their respective version of the Samsung flagship device, Sprint is already well into releasing its second update for its version of the handset. The first update hit the airwaves even before the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III hit the shelves and was mostly a security update for the device.
The second update on the other hand is expected to get rolled out within four days. Sad to say, the details and changelog of the update is not available yet as of press time but according to our sources, the said update will bring the system software of the handset up to L710VPLG2 and brings some Google security updates to the Samsung Galaxy S III.
When you come to think of it, the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S III has already received two security updates in a row within the span of one month although no major security issues on the handset have been reported so far. Sprint may be going on a proactive protection mode so this is a good thing for all those who rock the Sprint version of the handset. Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III starting at $149.
