With Apple scoring a monumental victory against Samsung in their recent patent trial, the Cupertino-based company immediately stepped up on its offense by filing a notice with the court containing a list of 17 devices that it seeks to be banned in US shores. Samsung on the other hand has countered by threatening to file a lawsuit against Apple if the next generation iPhone which is rumored to be released this September will have LTE connectivity on board.
The Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is on sale now starting at 149.99.
Apple has no plans of standing down and has amended its lawsuit by including the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer’s current flagship device and veritable gold mine as of the moment. Not only that, Apple has also included the first generation Samsung Galaxy Note phablet to the list of devices that it aims to have banned in US shores. With this move, Apple is obviously going for the jugular because the other 17 devices it previously aimed to have banned are already aging and to a certain extent can now be considered “has-beens” in the smartphone competition.
According to Apple, the patents violated by Samsung are as follows:
- ‘604 (Universal Search)
- ‘172 (Word Completion)
- ‘721 (Slide to Unlock)
- ‘647 (Data Detector)
Apple’s strategy in having the Samsung Galaxy S III included in this list is already expected. After all, the current Samsung flagship device is the most popular handset in the smartphone market today. It is also expected at the very least to make an impact once the next generation iPhone is released so at this point in time, the Cupertino-based company is already aiming to weaken the competition through this lawsuit.
The Samsung Galaxy S III 4G LTE needs no introduction folks but for those living under a rock for the longest time, it is one of the most powerful handsets in the market today and currently the toast of the smartphone town. Launched in the early parts of May but only made it to the shelves in the latter parts of the month, the Samsung Galaxy S III went on and became the bestselling device of Samsung where it managed to sell 10 million units of the handset in a relatively short two-month period on a global scale.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S III packs a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC gives the superphone a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a staggering 2GB of RAM. It is available in 16GB and 32GB in terms of storage capacity and this can still be expanded using the microSD card slot of the handset. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S III packs a massive 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department is just as impressive with the main 8MP shooter found in its back panel and 1.9MP video call camera housed in its front bezel.
