ios6Now that Apple has released the latest version of the iOS software and some consumers are not all that happy with it, one option might be to revert back to the iOS 6 software.  While Apple realized that some were not happy with the new software, Apple has reportedly closed that hole that allows users to do that.  Apple gave users an option to downgrade to the older software if you were not happy, but that option was only going to last one week, which is more than what Apple has allowed in the past.

Last week, there was an option to users that had the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad and other compatible devices were allowed to revert back to iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 6.1.4.  That loophole has been closed this week by Apple.  If you are upgrading to the iOS 7 software you are stuck with it until the company releases another version.  If you currently have the iOS 6 software installed, you can keep it as long as you want and do not click the update notification you will be getting regularly through the iTunes software when your phone is plugged into your PC or Mac.

You can still download and install all of the iOS 6 files to your device and go through the process to put the operating system back on your phone, but the last step is to call to Apple and have them verify the software, which it will no longer do, causing the installation to halt and device activation to fail.  It is typical for Android powered devices to allow for any software to be re-installed, but Apple’s process is much tighter than that, especially the activation of the device.

If you do not like the iOS 7 software and you are stuck with it because you failed to revert back to the older software, you will be able to get a new experience, but it might take months to get the iOS 7 jailbreak posted online.  Even though you are stuck with the new software and do not like it, it could be because you are not familiar with it and there are iOS 7 guides posted online that can help you get used to the new look and feel for the features.

  1. iOS7 is playing havoc with my iPhone4. It is jumpy, jerky with delay and seems to be designed for 4S or 5. It is hopeless with 4. Apple should realise this and allow iOS6 to be available for iPhone4 owners. But it seems they are now the Big Brother “IBMs” of this generation. They seem to have lost their heart.
