If you thought that Apple scoring a huge legal victory over Samsung in their recently concluded patent trial last week would be the end of the legal tussle between the two companies, think again. After the monumental win, the Cupertino-based company was quick to press on its offense by adding new devices to another patent suit against the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer. In the amended lawsuit, Apple is claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Note, the original smartphone slash tablet hybrid of Samsung, has infringed on some of the patents of the tech giant.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is on sale now starting at 99.99.

Apple made the filing last Friday and claims that the Samsung Galaxy Note infringes on at least 8 Apple patents that include word completion, slide to unlock and universal search patent among others. Along with the Samsung phablet, Apple is including the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 10.1 to the list of 17 previously listed devices that it wants banned in US shores. Apple filed the original complaint back in February and at that time, the filing only contained 17 devices that allegedly violates 4 Apple patents. With the new additions, the number of devices now comes up to 21 while the number of patents allegedly violated by Samsung was upped to 8.

Apple said, and we quote, that Samsung has “continued to flood the market with copycat products, including at least 17 new infringing products released prior to filing the original complaint in the instant action.” Apple also said in its complaint that “Since then, Samsung has continued to release new infringing products, including its current flagship device, the Galaxy S III. While Samsung’s new products infringe many of the same design patents, utility patents, trademarks, and trade dress rights that are at issue in the Earlier Case, Samsung’s new products also infringe additional utility patents, some of which issued after Apple filed the Earlier Case.”

A hearing to decide if the devices mentioned above will be banned in US shores is scheduled for later this year but as early as now, a Samsung executive has been quoted as saying that the Korean electronics giant is already considering changing the functionalities of the said smartphones to ensure that they remain in shelves in our side of the world.

The addition of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G to the list of devices being targeted by Apple did not come as a surprise because the phablet is one of the more popular Samsung devices to be released in US shores. Released by AT&T back in January, the Samsung Galaxy Note packs a QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset in its internals and this SoC gives the device a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and 1GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage but this can still be expanded using the microSD card slot of the phablet. In terms of its display, it has a massive SuperAMOLED screen real estate measuring 5.3-inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Its camera department is just as impressive with its rear 8MP shooter and front 2MP snapper.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G now starting at 99.99.

  1. What a shock. Well Samsung has a double-digit lead over them. Highly doubt the Iphone will break the global lead unless something else more disastrous than the bans occurs. Like a permanent ban on the Galaxy line.

We’ve already seen most bans temporary. Earlier this year, HTC’s One X was briefly banned by Apple in the US before HTC made the appropriate changes to get the band lifted. Lasted all of 2 weeks.

  2. This is a blatant admission by Apple that their smartphones no longer stands out, that they have been overshadowed and are desperate to use any method available to get noticed again.
Clearly the iPhone is dated and not keeping up with the pace of innovation set by Android phone makers, not to mention the long annual update cycle that Apple has chosen. What a shame that even with the iPhone 5 update they will still be lagging behind.
