With Apple organised Worldwide Developers’ Conference scheduled from the 11th to the 15th of June, the gossip mill is alive with speculation about the possibilities for a new iPhone amongst other things.
The general populace of course is not entirely wrong to expect a new model for the iPhone with most of the new models usually being released around the same time—with the only exception being the iPhone 4S (which was released in October). However, most sources seem to suggest that the best time to expect a new iPhone model would be this fall.
Going beyond speculations about the actual date of release, the new iPhone is also set to look significantly different from its predecessor. Brian White, an analyst from Topeka Capital Markets has previously posted pictures of what the new iPhone would look like when he was visiting tech suppliers in China and Taiwan. Jay Yarow from Business Insider writes that the new model is bound to be the biggest upgrade ever with a 4-inch screen and a sleek look that might need a unibody case. Another mystery source from 9to5 Mac adds that the new iPhone will sport a larger display that is about 4 inches diagonally. Reuters on the other hand, goes to a nigh absurd level by predicting a staggering 4.6 inch long display. Some sources also speculate that a substance Apple calls “Liquidmetal” might be used to make the body of the phone.
Going beyond exterior, many analysts believe that the new iPhone might incorporate Sony’s new back illuminated stacked CMOS image sensors which would be ideal for the new model. This seems to be the next logical step since the iPhone 4S already incorporates the same sensors. It will also probably feature 4G LTE compatibility. This, too should not come as a surprise for anyone considering that the recently released iPad already has this technology and Apple is most likely going to ensure that this feature gets passed down to their other products. There is also a lot of buzz surrounding the new ‘micro’ connector.
The list of rumours, of course is never ending and various “top sources” will fight with enough gusto to prove opposite claims. Customers and enthusiasts of Apple can do little but sit back, relax and wait for June 11th to come by.
