You would think that the combination of losing an important court battle to a competitor and that competitor simultaneously launching a new smartphone virtually guaranteed to be a bestseller in the mobile marketplace would be a bad combination for any smartphone manufacturer. However, the recent loss in court to competitor Apple combined with the recent launch of the iPhone 5 does not appear to have negatively influenced sales of Samsung’s popular and multimillion selling Galaxy S III smartphone. If anything, a recent study released by Localytics, an app analytics company, seems to show the exact opposite effect.

The Samsung Galaxy S III for Sprint is on sale now starting at 99.99.

On October 2 Localytics released their findings which showed that the Galaxy S III actually had sales spikes at three specific moments since the end of July, which all coincided with important Apple announcements or headlines. That is probably not what Apple intended when they took Samsung to court over what they claim was copyright infringement on several fronts. Apple has contested that their competitor copied tablet and smartphone designs to the point of breaking copyright law.

The first major jump that Localytics reported, also the largest increase in sales, occurred between August 21 and August 27. That is the exact same week Samsung announced they had suffered a $1 billion defeat at the hands of the Cupertino, California-based Apple after a US judge agreed with Apple that Samsung blatantly copied several Apple copyrights. It appears that the mention of Samsung in the endless headlines and news reports found online and on television drew attention to the Galaxy S III handset.

Apples claims mentioned that the handset was so similar to the iPhone, so those customers looking for 4G LTE connectivity (which the iPhone did not offer at that time) in an Android operating system with a much larger high resolution screen found the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III to be a viable option to the iPhone. The next big spike for the Galaxy S III occurred from September 11 to September 17, the same week Apple officially announced the iPhone 5. This led to retail sales employees around the United States comparing the two phones for customers.

The third big sales jump for the GS III actually included the official launch date of the iPhone 5. From September 18 to September 24, Samsung aggressively ramped up their marketing efforts with newspaper advertising, television and Internet commercials which made fun of Apple fans waiting in line for what Samsung considered to be an inferior iPhone 5. Samsung has not released official sales figures for this time frame frame for their popular Galaxy S III handset, but confirmed sales figures of 20 million units its first 100 days of sales availability tend to back up the claims made by Localytics.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III for Sprint now starting at 99.99.
