Apple has one of the most popular approaches to the mobile market and ever since the iPhone was released back in 2007, the company has seen success with that product along with tablets and music players that have also seen released since then.  Apple announced its first quarter earnings for the fiscal year and according to what the company reported, the numbers did not disappoint.  One of the numbers that jumps out to many that read the reports each quarter is how many iPhones were sold between October and the end of December.

The last quarter of the year, sometimes considered the first quarter for companies, is actually the heart of the busy holiday shopping season and during that timeframe, Apple sold more than 51 million iPhones.  That number is up from a total of 33.8 million iPhones from the quarter before and when compared to the same quarter last year the numbers are up from 41.8 million iPhones.  The holiday season is always going to be a nice boost for companies especially in the mobile market as more people get smartphones, phablets and tablets as gifts from their loved ones.

Last September was also the first time that Apple released two different models of the iPhone which allowed the company to double the possibility of higher sales.  The iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C hit the market and just about everyone that wanted to upgrade could because the iPhone 5C was a cheaper version of the high end model.  The sales of the iPhone 5C did not match the higher end model, however, it still gave Apple a better chance to improve numbers.  The company also pointed out iPad sales and according to those numbers, Apple sold just 26 million tablets over the same period.

That number is up from 14 million units that quarter before and slightly up from the 22 million they sold during the holiday season in 2012.  The numbers do not indicate a huge improvement for sales when it comes to Apple products, at least when compared to previous models, but when the numbers are going up, that is always a good sign.  Mac sales were also increased over the first quarter hitting more than 4.8 million units and that is up from 4.1 million units that year before.  The bad news is that is down from the 5.8 million the company sold two years ago.
