The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for a time was one of the more popular handsets in the smartphone market. After all, it was once a Google flagship device and was in fact used to showcase what Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich had to offer. Not only that, the handset was also for a time the only Android-powered smartphone to run the version of the OS which made some of our smartphone-crazed brethren consider the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as the best Android-powered device during its heydays despite the fact that several of the device’s components were mediocre at best.

However, this is not to say that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was not at all popular during its heydays. In fact, such is the popularity of the handset at that time that it was one of the handsets that Apple requested to be banned from US shelves because it apparently infringed on some of the Cupertino-based company’s patents. This request however was rejected by a three-judge panel back in October of last year. With this development, Samsung got some legal protection after it has been allowed to keep selling the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in our side of the world.

However, it looks like we haven’t heard the last from Apple. As it stands, the company has yet again filed a request to the full Federal Circuit Court of Appeals to have the prior decision overturned. With this request, Apple is banking on having the complete 9-judge panel to review the decision made by only three of their colleagues last year. However, legal experts agree that the case is not controversial enough to force the entire court to reopen the case and come to a decision. Whatever the outcome will be, we hope that both Samsung and Apple will find a way to look for a common ground to co-exist peacefully.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the handset gained prominence when it reached official status during its announcement back in October of 2011. The handset however waited until November of the same year before it finally made its first appearance in the shelves. The handset looks like your typical Android smartphone with its black paintjob while its measurements come up to 135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9 mm. The handset tips the scales at 135 grams and gives the impression of being solidly built.

Under the hood, the operation of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is powered by its Texas Instruments OMAP4460 chipset. This SoC brings into play a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The storage space onboard the device comes up to 32GB but this is all you get due to the lack of support for memory expansion. As for its display, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports a 4.65-inch SuperAMOLED ContourDisplay panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department, its major pain point, is a bit mediocre with its rear 5MP shooter and front 1.3MP snapper.
