It hasn’t been a week since the release of Samsung’s flagship phone for the year, the Galaxy S IV. The launched product did not disappoint fans and the new features expected by analysts on the basis of leaks and rumours turned out to be true. The smartphone war has gone to such an extent that even before excitement about the new phone has died down, rumours about Apple’s response have started spreading rapidly. Apparently, the U.S. based smartphone manufacturer will be launching not one but two smartphones to compete with Galaxy S IV, the first being the internally updated iPhone 5 and the second being a cheaper version of the regular iPhone.

The next iPhone needs to have specifications and features to match and surpass the Galaxy S IV, if the company harbours any hopes of challenging the South Korean behemoth. So what has Apple supposedly come up with? A fingerprint sensor. Though this feature is just a rumour for now, the inclusion of the same would take smartphone technology to the next level by offering superior data protection and security.

There is a high possibility of this happening as Apple purchased Florida-based fingerprint scanning hardware maker AuthenTec last July. The company has also apparently signed a licensing deal with an Australian bio-security company called Microlatch. Additionally, the phone is also expected to include an NFC chip, which has become standard for all high-end smartphones. Here’s to a future in which future iPhone users won’t have to remember passwords and pin numbers.

Moving on to the next iPhone awaited this year, it can be referred to as iPhone Mini. It is not a secret that iPhones are highly priced and that buying one remains just a dream for most people who wish to own an iPhone! If Apple’s rivals can launch entry level phones targeted at specific markets (read Nokia Lumia 520), it can do the same too.

The budget iPhone will supposedly be a smaller version of the flagship model and will be available in four to six colours to stand out among a plethora of standard black devices. Naturally, the look and casing quality will be compromised in order to offer the phone at a low price. Just as the Lumia 520 is targeted at India, this budget iPhone will also be targeted at China and India, the largest consumer bases of mobile phones in the world.
