The Atrix HD 4G Android smartphone launched on June 15 on the AT&T 4G LTE network, and borrows the popular DuPont Kevlar fiber body and appearance of its cousins, the Droid Razr 4G and Droid Razr MAXX 4G. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display and continues the rough and rugged protection the handset’s chassis provides, and that smartphone delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, offering the new SmartActions personalization application. The fully integrated free app automates your most common tasks and requests, and along the way suggests more efficient ways to personalize your smartphone.
The price tag of was recently lowered for the Atrix HD 4G Android smartphone with a standard new two-year activation and data agreement at select retailers.
SmartActions takes selections that you make and optimizes them for battery conservation, speed and performance. The handset also offers a large high resolution display, powerful dual core processor and high-resolution camcorder. Slim at only 0.33 inches (8.1 mm), the handset measures 5.26 x 2.75 x 0.33 inches (133.5 x 69.9 x 8.4 mm) in size, weighing in at 4.94 ounces (140 g). With an above average display size for a smartphone, the Atrix HD boasts a 4.50 inch touchscreen with 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution, represented at 326 pixels per inch. That TFT touchscreen employs more than 16 million colors for visual rendering, and the MotoBlur UI meshes with ICS 4.0, supporting multitouch, capacitive gestures to navigate the device.
Battery conservation teams up with the 1,780 mA battery on board to deliver 9.00 hours of talk time from a single charge, above average for a 4G smartphone. Battery standby time runs approximately 8.5 days, and the Atrix HD uses a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package to process device operations and requests. That chip set is built around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor, and a separate Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing. The handset also delivers 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 8.0 GB of data storage, with a microSD slot provided for storage expansion.
The Atrix HD for AT&T offers autofocus, geo-tagging and digital zoom as well as a special effects package on its rear facing 8.0 megapixel camera which provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. That rear snapper also arrives with a built-in LED flash, and is joined by a 1.3 megapixel chat cam on the front of the handset which faces the user. That front facing VGA quality camera provides portrait snapshot capabilities and offers video call support.
