The nomenclature of Sony’s Xperia line of smartphone can be compared to an alphabet soup and at the rate it is going right now, the manufacturer might end up using all 26 letters of the alphabet in just a matter of time to identify its smartphones. And today, AT&T announced the addition of one of the letters, I mean, Xperia handsets to its lineup of Android powered devices in the form of the Sony Xperia TL.
We remember the handset as the Xperia T unveiled by Sony at the recent IFA in Berlin and will be released by AT&T in US shores in the near future. Sad to say, no specific release date or pricing info has been mentioned by the wireless provider during the announcement but we’ll ensure to get you the information as soon as more details become available.
Rumors of the addition of the Sony Xperia TL to the lineup of AT&T have been speculated on for a couple of weeks now so don’t blame us for not acting surprised at all with the announcement. After all, mug shots of the Sony Xperia TL with AT&T branding have been circulating in the internet for the better part of a month now and the only thing missing in the equation was the announcement from AT&T which it gave out today.
For those unfamiliar with the Sony Xperia TL, this will be the handset Daniel Craig will sport in the upcoming James Bond movie Skyfall. So even if we can’t afford his car or get that “license to kill”, we at least will get the chance to play with Mr. Bond’s smartphone.
As mentioned earlier, the Sony Xperia TL was unveiled by Sony at IFA 2012 in Berlin back in August but no specific release date for the handset has been announced by AT&T as of yet. Seeing however that Skyfall is scheduled for a November 9 US release, there’s a big chance that the Sony Xperia TL will be available by then off the shelves of AT&T. Design-wise, the handset looks your typical Android smartphone in a black paint job. The Sony Xperia TL has dimensions of 129.4 x 67.3 x 9.4 mm and it tips the scales at 139 grams. And being the Bond phone that it is, we expect the handset to have a solid build quality.
Under the hood, the Sony Xperia TL runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this is powered by the handset’s QualComm MSM8260A SnapDragon chipset. This SoC brings into play a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor working in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM in delivering the computing power needed by the handset for its operation. The storage space onboard the Sony Xperia TL comes up to 16GB and the handset itself has a microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. Display-wise, the Sony Xperia TL packs a 4.55-inch TFT panel with a 720 x 1280 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration features a rear 13MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
