bbz10bYou by now probably know that the brand-new form factor offered by the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is a total departure from what we have come to know and love in the typical BlackBerry smartphone offering. No more does the company formally known as RIM claim a physical QWERTY keyboard-carrying device as typical of its company’s offerings. Year after year they clung to the small display, physical keyboard device profile which once carried the company to the top of the proverbial smartphone mountain, despite downward trending sales.

The BlackBerry Z10 is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.

But they held onto that iconic and eclectic form factor long after the buying public fell in love with large, touchscreen driven, high-resolution displays and speedy processors. Having learned their lesson, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer desires to put their past few years in its rear view mirror to such an extent that they even changed their name from RIM to BlackBerry. They rolled out a brand-new BlackBerry 10 operating system and BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, and the device looks like the typical Android or Apple handset.

DLNA wireless connectivity allows you to port whatever is on the BlackBerry Z10 display to an external HDTV or monitor, and the 4.2 inch LCD screen delivers an HD+ resolution of 768 x 1,280 pixels. This is delivered at an exceptionally high pixel density, 356 pixels per inch, and that multitouch, capacitive screen delivers more than 16 million different colors. One thing that has returned to the BlackBerry Z10 from previous BlackBerry smartphones is security and Enterprise integration.

The handset is so secure that none other than the United States Department of Defense (DOD) has given the Z10 its seal of approval, and the phone arrives in a slim and light form factor. Just 0.35 inches (9.0 mm) in thickness and weighing 4.5 ounces (138 g), the BlackBerry Z10 can deliver a full 10.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge. A dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 plus CPU joins 2.0 GB of RAM memory, 16 GB of built-in storage and a storage-expanding microSD slot in the phone’s hardware package.

Dual cameras are on board, including a front facing Skype and video capable chat cam, as well as rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear snapper can record video in 1,080P HD resolution, and Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC wireless connectivity options are on board the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. The handset also offers a built-in music player with filtering capabilities, and can function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices. The handset was recently spotted for $49 on contract, and is available at that price from select online retailers.

The BlackBerry Z10 can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
