Earlier this week a Samsung tipster released a list of smartphones rumored to receive the upcoming Android 5.0 Key Lime pie operating system. Online tech site GSMArena posted the list provided by an unnamed “Samsung source”, and it shows the Galaxy Note II smartphone will receive an update to Key Lime Pie 5.0 at sometime in the near future. The leaked information also stated that the handset may receive further operating system updates after 5.0. That is good news for AT&T Galaxy Note II owners and shoppers, and the handset currently retails for around $149 on contract at select online retailers like the Amazon Wireless store.
The handset is notable for several reasons, one of the most popular being the multi-window split screen feature. This allows you to break your Galaxy Note II display down into two equally sized windows, and either multitask by running separate applications at the same time, or allow you to interact between the two screens. On the Galaxy Note II, the smart stylus S Pen has been reworked, and is longer and thicker than the one that debuted with the original Galaxy Note.
The new stylus also offers pen proximity integrated into the display, and that screen recognizes when the tip of the stylus is hovering just above the display. In this Hover Mode you can get more information about a website, application or destination before you click on it, improving your productivity. That contextual awareness is also delivered in the audible and visual alarm feature you can set, which lets you know when your smart stylus S Pen strays too far from home. The Galaxy Note II is the first handset from Samsung to launch with Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box.
The smart stylus is integrated with native handwriting recognition technology, allowing you to doodle, draw and write in your own handwriting. You can even add notes, messages and artwork to videos and still snapshots. The Galaxy Note II launched on the 4G LTE system of AT&T on November 9 of last year, and arrives in a slim profile, measuring 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). The 5.55 inch True HD display is aligned in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio for high definition viewing, and delivers a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels.
Talk time runs as high as 15.0 hours from a full battery charge, and the Samsung Exynos 4 system chip is centered around a quad core 1.6 GHz Cortex A9 CPU. A quad core graphics processor is also on board, as are 16 GB of built-in storage and 2.0 GB of RAM memory. The built-in microSD slot provides storage expansion, with the rear facing camcorder of 8.0 megapixels recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
