AT&T HTC Inspire 4G gets a non-ICS update

As of the moment, most of the high-end devices in the market are looking forward to getting a taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system. Other handsets on the other hand are still waiting to get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich while there are some who will get stuck in the Gingerbread generation like the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Inspire 4G released by AT&T in US shores.

While HTC is still very busy trying to rationalize its decision of not upgrading both the two handsets mentioned above to ICS, it is not too busy when you come to think of it because the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer still found the time to develop an update for the HTC Inspire 4G. Sad to say, this is not the ICS update users of the handset are waiting for – the handset will get stuck with Gingerbread – but an update that will bring bug fixes and enhancements to the HTC Inspire 4G.

Sad to say, no ETA has been announced as of yet but since the changelog of the update is already available, we’re pretty sure that the update is just around the corner and could drop any day now. The update will be unleashed via OTA so expect a notification to come up on your device one of these days to let you know of its availability. If you happen to lack the patience in waiting for the notification to show itself while at the same time feeling brave and adventurous, you have the option to download the RUU directly from the support site of HTC for that matter. Be reminded however that it you go the RUU way, you need to have HTC Sync installed. Also, the process will also delete the current data on the handset.

The update is expected to bring new features such as AT&T Address Book, Task manager and HTC Sense 3.0 to the HTC Inspire 4G. Also, it will also pack fixes and updates such as improvements to the call optimization of the handset which reduces dropped calls, enhanced security functionality and contact display fix for SMS / MMS thread. The HTC Inspire 4G‘s data use in the background will also get improved once the update has been applied to the handset.

As for the HTC Inspire 4G, AT&T announced the handset back in January but it only became available a month later. The handset’s circuitry is built around its QualComm MSM8255 SnapDragon chipset while the computing power required by the HTC Inspire 4G is generated by its 1GHz Scorpion processor and 768 MB of RAM. The storage space of the handset is a bit measly at 4GB but an included 8GB microSD card in the retail package of the HTC Inspire 4G ought to take care of the minimal internal memory it has. Display-wise, the HTC Inspire 4G packs a 4.3-inch SuperLCD panel with a 800 x 480 resolution while its camera department only boasts of one shooter which happens to be a rear 8MP camera capable of 720p clip capture.
