Though our more purist smartphone-crazed brethren are bound to disagree, there is no doubt as of the moment that the HTC One X is the best handset in the whole of Android ecosystem because of the components and capabilities that it brings to the table. As a background, the handset has the distinction of being the first smartphone in the world to come with a quad-core processor under the hood back when it still was known as the HTC Edge late last year before it was officially christened as the One X.

In US shores, it was AT&T who got first dibs on the newest superphone from Taiwanese smatphone and tablet manufacturer HTC and officially announcing the device back in February as the HTC One X 4G. The wireless provider however eschewed the quad-core powered version of the handset and instead opted for its dual-core variant. Despite the seeming disadvantage that the dual-core powered version of the handset released by AT&T, it in fact got better benchmark scores and is said to be faster compared to the quad-core powered international version of the handset.

The better benchmark scores of the HTC One X 4G can be attributed to its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon S4 chipset which design is said to be based on a newer and thereby more efficient architecture compared to the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset found in its international sibling. Because of this, the HTC One X 4G from AT&T easily smoked the international version of the handsets in almost all of the benchmark tests it went through such as Sunspider, LinPack (both single-threaded and multi-threaded), BaseMark OS Performance and Vellamo Overall Score.

The results of the benchmark testing however are only for the CPUs of the two handsets and are not applicable to the GPU performance wherein the ULP GeForce graphics chip of the international variant of the handset was found to be a better performer compared to the slightly older Adreno 225 GPU found in the HTC One X 4G from AT&T.

Should you be interested in getting your hands on this new superphone being offered by AT&T, the HTC One X 4G is now available for pre-order at a very popular online retailer for only $149.99 which is actually 50 bucks cheaper compared to its listed price at the wireless provider. Of course, you will be required to sign a new two year-contract with AT&T for that matter if you want to take advantage of the HTC One X 4G at its carrier-subsidized price point but I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t mind being tied down with AT&T as your wireless provider of choice for two more years given the components and capabilities brought to the table by the HTC One X 4G.  Pre-order the HTC One X starting at $149
