Microsoft may have dropped the bomb with its Windows Phone 8 event where the new WP8-packing devices were unveiled but there was still no mention of when these new smartphones will make their debut in the shelves of the carriers that have been confirmed to release them. Take the case of AT&T for example. Windows Phone fanboys over at the wireless provider are already apprehensive (and with justification at that) because the carrier hasn’t been very consistent when it comes to the release dates of its lineup of new Windows Phone 8 handsets. Rumors pointed to October 21, November 2, November 4, November 11 and now November 9 as the big day but so far, there has been no confirmation as of yet coming from the carrier.
The November 1 date was mentioned a couple of days ago in rumors as the pegged date for the Nokia Lumia 920 to make its debut in the shelves of AT&T but these new rumors have indicated that the carrier will launch the handset on November 9 instead. Not only that, word on the street is that AT&T subscribers buying the Nokia Lumia 920 could end up getting an extra treat with the handset.
The information comes from one of our sources close to the AT&T who confirmed that the carrier is just finalizing plans in last minute meetings and is already getting ready to make some announcements soon. In addition to that, the source confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 920 will hit AT&T shelves on Friday, November 9 and will set you back $99.99 should you be interested in getting your hands on the handset. Of course, you will be required to sign a new two-year service agreement with AT&T if you want to take advantage of the Nokia Lumia 920 at its carrier-subsidized price point.
One other tidbit whispered by our source was about the free wireless charge pad of the Nokia Lumia 920. In the past, the wireless charge pad has always been advertized as an extra accessory but many of the smartphone-buying population think that it should come in the retail package of the handset. If rumors pan out, the Nokia Lumia 920 could end up getting bundled with a free wireless charge pad for that matter and we are crossing our fingers that this rumor indeed pans out. UPDATE: An AT&T associate has dispelled the rumor about the charge pad – it is not an accessory that ATT carries.
As for the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset is the current flagship device of the Finnish smartphone manufacturer for the Windows Phone ecosystem and was unveiled back in September. The circuitry of the handset revolves around its QualComm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset while a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM to deliver a flawless performance to the handset. In terms of storage, the Nokia Lumia 920 comes with 32GB of onboard memory while its display is a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ IPS TFT panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Its dual-shooter configuration on the other hand boasts of a rear 8.7MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
