If you happen to have AT&T for you wireless provider of choice and have snagged the Samsung Captivate Glide from the carrier because you never got the hang of doing your messaging chores on a full touchscreen device and still prefers the old fashioned way of typing on a physical keyboard, you will be interested to know that your long months of waiting for the ICS update to finally land on your handset has come to a screeching end. Make the five long months actually because it was back in March when AT&T promised that the handset will also get a tasty treat of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for that matter.
Finally, the Android 4.0 refresh is now getting rolled out to the Samsung Captivate Glide but you might want to skip the checking for that little notification part or forcing your device to manually check for the update – AT&T and Samsung have decided to roll out the ICS update via Samsung Kies and not via the usual OTA manner. With that in play, all you need to do is hook up your Samsung Captivate Glide to your computer and launch the Samsung Kies software to get the update process rolling. Oh, you also have to ensure that you have the latest version installed on your PC, okay? Your device also should have at least more than half of its battery life remaining to make sure that the update process goes off without a hitch.
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will bring to the device all the usual treats and goodies associated with that particular version of Android but more importantly, it will also bring a couple of improvements and enhancements to the performance of your Samsung Captivate Glide. One beneficiary of these enhancements is the handset’s browser which will now offer tabbed browsing with better and faster page loading. ICS will also give you the capability to unlock your handset and go directly to the home screen, text messaging, the phone dialer or the camera. It also gives you multitasking capabilities with the inclusion of the Recent Apps option to let you switch between apps in a faster and more efficient manner. And of course, that very famous Face Unlock will now be a staple of your device as well.
As for the Samsung Captivate Glide, the handset reached official status when it was announced back in October of last year and it hit the shelves a month later. It boasts of an NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset in its internals which brings to the device a dual-core 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 1GB of RAM. Storage space on the device comes up to 8GB with the option to add more via the handset’s memory expansion slot. It has a 4.0-inch SuperAMOLED display with a 480 x 800 resolution while packing a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for you messaging addicts out there. Its camera department on the other hand includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
