The original version of the Samsung Galaxy Note released late last year by the Korean electronics giant was a surprise hit in the smartphone competition. When Samsung unveiled its first generation phablet, a lot of doubters came out in the open and plainly questioned the capability of the device to make a mark in the market. Apparently, these doubters are still smarting from the misfortunes of the Dell Streak 5 and are not quick to see what components and capabilities that Samsung phablet brings to the table.

However, this all changed when the smartphone-buying population realized the advantages of the handset. Massive it may be but as a consequence, its display is massive as well and the extra screen real estate was something that made the Samsung Galaxy Note a runaway hit.

Due to the success of its first generation phablet, Samsung quickly put together a plan to come up with its successor – a successor which was unveiled in the last week of August in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Because of this, interest in the original version of the Samsung Galaxy Note is already on the down trend but Samsung still has a lot of good things in store for the original phablet. In fact, word on the street is that after Samsung gets the Galaxy S III updated to Jelly Bean, it would be the turn of the Samsung Galaxy Note to get a taste of the Andoird 4.1 refresh. So you see, it is still worth holding on to that massive device after all.

However, if you happen to have the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G that made its way to US shelves and no longer have the patience for the time your phablet will get to see the official Jelly Bean update, you have the option of looking at what the developer community has to offer. In fact, the CyanogenMod Team is already hard at work to bring Jelly Bean to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note for that matter. In fact, the CM Team has already released the official CyanogenMod 10 Nightly for the AT&T version of the phablet so if you are already bored with the stock experience that came with your phablet, you might want to take a look at this bleeding edge release and see if it is a good fit.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note, it might already be on its way out but its specs sheet is still pretty impressive. It has a QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset under the hood which brings a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and 1GB of RAM to the handset. Its storage space is pegged at 16GB with the option for memory expansion. Its standout feature however remains to be its massive 5.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 1280 x 800 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear-facing 8MP autofocus shooter with an LED flash while its front bezel is home to its 2MP video call camera.
