When it came to releasing updates about its plans in having the devices in its stable upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Samsung was one of the first smartphone manufactures to actually give details about its plans. When it first came out with its ICS rollout schedule late last year, the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer confirmed that the ICS update for the original version of the Samsung Galaxy S II is slated for a Q1 release. The manufacturer was able to follow through on this when it finally unleashed the update that will crank up the device to the latest version of the Google mobile operating system back in February.
Of course, it was to be expected that the carrier-branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II will experience delays in getting the Android 4.0 refresh since the process is a whole lot more complicated. Back then, it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Sprint’s version of the Galaxy S II, will get first dibs on the Ice Cream Sandwich update because at that time, it was rumored that the carrier has already entered the final stage of testing the ICS update for the handset. Sad to say, this is not the case because the honor was claimed by the HTC Vivid 4G from AT&T when users of the handset took advantage of a dialer trick to manually download the ICS update – thereby making it the first handset in US shores to get a taste of ICS.
In the case of the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, there were reports a couple of days back that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the handset has finally become available. However, the update was quickly pulled by the wireless carrier claiming that the update hasn’t been fully tested yet.
During that time, there were rumors that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II from AT&T will again be made available last Saturday but sad to say, that rumor did not pan out. Just today, users of the handset are reporting that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II has been made available yet again via Kies.
Sad to say, the ICS OTA update for Samsung Galaxy S II from AT&T hasn’t been made available yet so you have to do things the old fashion way – hook up your handset to your computer and fire up the Samsung Kies software to get the update process rolling.
Once the update has been applied to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II, it will bring enhancements to the UI of the device. It will also bring several bug fixes and redesigned apps to handset along with the much-awaited Face unlock feature. Hopefully, the update stays and is no longer just a test just like the last time. You can buy the Samsung Galaxy S II starting at just one penny!

I agree with Vishal. I waited with baited breath for this awesome upgrade and what I got was…….meh. Of the few changes that I see, most of them are negative as far as I’m concerned. Kind of wished I hadn’t done it. Is it possible to reload the old OS?
