If you are still holding on to that Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G handset you have from a couple of years back when the 4G LTE network of AT&T was still in its infancy, you might want to keep holding on to that handset because the Korean smartphone manufacturer and Ma Bell have started rolling out the much-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the smartphone. After news of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II getting its taste of Jelly Bean broke out, we knew the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G was not far behind in getting its dessert as well and here we are.

The Jelly Bean update is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G via OTA AND Samsung Kies so either you hook your handset up to your computer and fire up the Samsung Kies software to get the update process started or do it the easy way and wait for the notification that heralds the arrival of Jelly Bean on your Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G to come up. Alternatively, you also have the option of manually checking for the update.

The update once applied to the handset will crank up the software version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G to i727UCMC1 and give it a taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. In addition to that, it also brings the following goodies and treats to the handset:

  • Buttery smooth performance and improved device stability thanks to Project Butter
  • Full revamp of handset’s user interface (TouchWIZ Nature UX)
  • S Cloud services
  • Improved camera features
  • New lockscreen with customization options
  • New features such as Direct Call, Smart Stay and Popup Play
  • New widgets
  • 2 Homescreen modes
  • New notification bar with more notification toggles
  • Google Now

In addition to that, the update also brings several fixes specific to the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G such as the removal of MSpot and Qik. The update will also bring enhancements to the call quality of the handset.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G was added on to the Android lineup of AT&T back in October of 2011 but it only managed to make its debut in the shelves of the carrier a month later in November. The handset relies on its QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation while a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM in generating the required computing muscle of the handset. The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G has 16GB of internal storage bit this can easily be expanded using the handset’s microSD card slot. Its display on the other hand is a 4.5-inch SuperAMOLED Plus panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
