It’s not often that you can get an award-winning product at a price lower than the competitors it beat out to receive that coveted award. But that is exactly the case with the Samsung Galaxy  S II Epic Touch 4G running on the Sprint 4G WiMAX network. That handset was judged the Best New Mobile Device in all 4G technologies worldwide at this year’s Chicago, Illinois 4G World Conference and Expo. Dedicated specifically to 4G technology, that is quite an achievement for Sprint’s version of the Galaxy  S II. To celebrate that award-winning achievement, Sprint did something rather odd.

Buy the Samsung Epic  Touch 4G starting at only $79.99, in addition, if you also activate your mobile hotspot service at the time of purchase you will also receive a free $100 Amazon gift card.

Usually, when a product is considered by its peers to be the best in its particular marketplace, the retail price goes up, not down. But that is exactly what happened recently to the Epic Touch 4G, and Sprint lowered it to $79 with a standard two-year activation. That means that the device which is regarded as the best new 4G product to arrive in 2011 is now the least expensive of all US Galaxy  S II models. The Galaxy  S II was first introduced to the world in Europe and Asia this year, and immediately set. Samsung sales records, producing sales of 10 million units in five months.

Sprint was the first US company to launch a version of the overseas Galaxy  S II, the Samsung Epic Touch 4G, and its popularity helped Samsung pass Apple as the worldwide leader in global smartphone shipments. Rather than keeping with the design of the successful original, Sprint made several changes to the design of the Galaxy S II, and that lends the Epic Touch 4G a unique look when compared to other Galaxy   S II models.

Android’s 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system is on board, and popular social media applications Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa have been preloaded. Typical in size and weight when compared to all other 4G smartphones, the Epic Touch 4G Android handset is powered by an Exynos chip set, a dual core 1.2 GHz central processor, Mali 400MP graphics processing unit, 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 Epic Touch 4G has one of the larger displays in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, delivering 480 x 800 pixel resolution to its 4.52 inch screen. That Super AMOLED Plus capacitive, multitouch display delivers visuals in 16 million colors, and contains standard light and proximity sensors. Talk time from a single battery charge runs an above-average 8.70 hours, and standby time is 11 days. A rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder joins a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo, and 1080P HD video capture is provided by that rear mounted camera.
