The HTC One, fresh off winning the Best Mobile Device blue ribbon at the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, finally has a pretty solid release date. The handset is almost certainly going to be launched on or around March 15 in the United States on the Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile networks. Previous smartphones in the HTC One lineup have been successful bestsellers, but HTC believes they have improved those previous flagship smartphones in four significant areas with their upcoming HTC One.
Camera quality has been ramped up substantially and now delivers a new BSI (backside illumination) feature and optical image stabilization. The camera on the new phone will also offer UltraPixel technology, as opposed to measuring its sensor by megapixels. HTC has also designed the One smartphone with a premium metal unibody, and added what users and test subjects are calling a much more streamlined and simplified HTC Sense user interface. Beats Audio is on board, and also enjoys an enhanced stereo sound experience.
There is no early word as to a retail price, but many of the features of the handset have been released since the MWC coming-out party. The handset delivers a large 4.70 inch display, a speedy quad core processor and NFC support out-of-the-box. The HTC One will also offer Jelly Bean 4.1.2 out-of-the-box, and arrives in a slim form factor, measuring just 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). The 4.70 inch display mentioned earlier is a Super LCD 3 model, protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2. Resolution runs high at 1,920 × 1,080 pixels.
Pixel density is the highest we have seen from any smartphone yet, running an impressive 468 pixels per inch. The handset is navigated by the typical capacitive, multitouch gestures, and uses light and proximity sensors for battery conservation. An oversized 2,300 mA battery is on board, but no word at this stage as to talk time or battery performance. The system chip on board is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T combination, and the CPU is a quad core Krait 300 chip clocked at 1.7 GHz.
An Adreno 320 GPU is also present, as is 2.0 GB of RAM memory. The handset will be offering 32 and 64 GB models, and the rear facing camcorder runs 2.0 UltraPixels. The f/2.0 lens and built-in LED flash make for excellent low light camera operation, and 1,080P HD resolution video recording is capable while simultaneously snapping high-resolution snapshots. The HTC One also comes equipped with a front facing 2.1 megapixel chat cam.
