Early last week, the world of the Android ecosystem got a shocker when a leaked internal document from Best Buy surfaced indicating that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for both the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx and HTC Rezound 4G from Verizon can be expected to land on the two high-end smartphones on April 4 and April 6 respectively. Given the track record of Best Buy which happens to have more misses than hits when it comes to leaked information such as this, we were a bit wary about the information but we were still hopeful that the rumored ICS update for the two handsets will pan out.
Buy the HTC Rezound starting at $49.
Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $199.
Sad to say, this is not to be the case. April 4 came and went and no Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx was pushed to the handset on the appointed date. This has to have been expected to begin with because when Motorola came out with information about the status of the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the handsets in its lineup early this year, the status of the development of ICS for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is still in the Evaluation and Planning stage which means that it will still take time before the update will get rolled out to the handset. Best Buy in effect circulated another employee memo to confirm that the ICS update for the Motorola flagship device will indeed get delayed. We reached out to Motorola for comment about this but unsurprisingly, the manufacturer was tight-lipped about the whole affair. It gave confirmation however that it is bound to release information about the status of the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx soon. With the confirmation from Motorola, it was a definite Strike One for Best Buy.
In the case of the HTC Rezound 4G on the other hand, in the same memo Best Buy sent to it employees where it confirmed the delay of the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, the retail giant maintained that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the handset from the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer is still on and will be rolled out as scheduled on April 6. We were more doubtful this time given the first strike but we were still hopeful. We were to be disappointed yet again.
Again, April 6 came and went and just like in the case of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, there was nary a peep of Ice Cream Sandwich getting pushed to the HTC Rezound 4G. In fact there were already indications prior to April 6 but we were still hoping against hope that the HTC Rezound 4G will finally get its taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. First, Verizon never fails to put the details of any impending update for any of its handsets in its official support site. Second, there were no reports from users of the handset regarding getting a notification about the availability of the ICS update on their handsets. Which means that the leak from Best Buy is a bust and is actually Strike Two for the retail giant.
This being the case, users of both the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx and HTC Rezound 4G are again playing the waiting game and here’s to hoping that they won’t have to wait too long this time for the upgrade to ICS to hit their handsets. Buy the HTC Rezound starting at $49. Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $199.

Why is it a bust for Best Buy? Why is this “Strike Two” against Best Buy? Any douche can photoshop a screen capture claiming it’s from Best Buy and start the rumor, which was proven in this case. So why blame Best Buy when it wasn’t their fault? Idiot.
