The arrival date of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is no longer in question, released over a week ago. Research in motion (RIMM) has partnered with T-Mobile, and decided to offer the first 4G phone from the company. Early rumors were that this could be the slimmest smartphone in the entire mobile marketplace, and RIMM is certainly playing up that angle. Home to a 1.2 GHz processor, NFC support and the new BlackBerry seven OS, RIMM hopes the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will return dwindling market share lost to the IOS and Android platforms.
By T-Mobile’s own reckoning, their 4G network will offer speeds three times faster than typical 3G speeds, and the large dual core processor of the BlackBerry 7 is the perfect match for their 4G network. Obviously, a cellular service provider is only going to say good things about new products they release and new technology they own, but early reviews are very favorable as regards the BlackBerry Bold 9900 performance. T-Mobile is offering the Blackberry Bold 9900 4G for $249.
And as is true in with most things in life, if you want the latest and greatest you have to pay that price. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is reported to carry a $299 price tag. With 4G phones in the one penny to $349 price range, this plants the BlackBerry Bold 900 solidly at the top end of the retail price structure for 4G smartphones.
The BlackBerry Bold 900 might be one of the costliest BlackBerry smartphones in the mobile marketplace. In Hong Kong a BlackBerry Bold 9900 was recently sold for $768 in a SIM-free version.
RIMM is putting a lot of promotion and hope in the BlackBerry Bold 9900′s corner, and the online reviews and videos from respected objective review sites are all pretty much positive. Only time will tell if this is the new Apple iPhone 4 killer. Learn more about other new BlackBerry releases with our BlackBerry Torch 9850 Review and our BlackBerry Bold 9930 Review.
