The new BlackBerry Z10 just recently debuted the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, and the launch has been more successful than most analysts predicted. With over 1 million sales after little more than one week of availability in the United States on the AT&T network, and only launching a couple of days ago on the Verizon network, the handset has performed better than expected. A commercial order of 1 million units was also placed, so BlackBerry executives have reasons to look on the launch as a huge success.
But with a newly revamped touchscreen design, the BlackBerry Z10 is still getting its feet wet in the mobile marketplace. However, that did not stop the BlackBerry CEO from announcing that the company would release a new flagship smartphone later this year. Thorsten Heins claimed that he is “very excited” about the new device, and only promised the handset with release before the end of 2013. The announcement came in a recent interview with CNET, and is viewed by many as a premature declaration with the BlackBerry Z10 still trying to develop a following.
CEO Heins used the old salesman’s trick of curiosity when he stated that, “There’s one new product I’m really excited about, but I can’t really share it.” The only details he would give were very sketchy, claiming that the new handset will take BlackBerry 10 to another level “in terms of the user experience.” Why the CEO of a smartphone manufacturing company would speak of improving on a device’s operating system which he just launched in a much-awaited handset is anyone’s guess, and Heins mentioned that the new handset could arrive in mid 2013 at the earliest.
The company’s App Store recently reached the 100,000 milestone, and the new BlackBerry Z10 was designed in a totally different form factor than previous BlackBerry smartphones. Gone are the small screen and physical QWERTY keyboard, as the new BlackBerry Z10 is totally touchscreen driven and offers a large 4.2 inch display. In anticipation of the release of the new BlackBerry 10 operating system, a full 30,000 new apps have been released in just the last seven weeks. The handset offers a soft touch material on its back plate, and the 4.2 inch LCD delivers a 1,280 by 768 pixel resolution.
This means a high-level pixel density, running 356 pixels over every inch of display space. The handset offers a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory, as well as 16 GB of internal storage space. A microSD card slot has been provided for storage expansion and offboard data access, and the handset is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU. The BlackBerry Z10 is capable of 1,080P HD resolution video capture with its rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and delivers NFC wireless support and Wi-Fi mobile hotspot connectivity out-of-the-box.
You can purchase the Blackberry Z10 at a discounted price tag now starting at $99.99.
