The company formally known as Research in Motion (RIM) has just released an important update for their new BlackBerry 10 operating system. That OS debuted on the BlackBerry Z10, and both the operating system and handset mark an important change in direction for the smartphone manufacturer from Canada. BlackBerry 10 operating system update number 10.0.10.85 is a 150MB upgrade which is available for download over the air, and effectively increases battery life and camera functionality, as well as overall performance.
This first update in the BlackBerry Z10 change-log supports better third-party application integration. It is now easier for outside developers to build applications which run quickly and smoothly on the BlackBerry 10 operating system. Coupled with this particular feature of the upgrade are a few new application launches coming from third-party developers which BlackBerry says will start arriving in early March. The handset’s camera will also offer a better result in low light situations, especially those situations which do not require flash.
Gmail calendar integration onto the BlackBerry 10 smartphone has also been improved, and the BlackBerry Hub experience for logging calls and handling conversations has been improved as well. Importing contacts from exterior online sources has also been streamlined. Early users of the BlackBerry Z10 acted basically as guinea pigs for the new operating system, and as a result, access to online videos and other media has been improved through the online web browser due to user feedback.
This new BlackBerry 10 operating system update also effectively improves battery life. More than 60 battery saving improvements have been added. Especially aimed at improving the BlackBerry Z10 experience for heavy users, BlackBerry has announced that a much longer average usage per charge cycle is delivered with this upgrade. The BlackBerry 10 OS and BlackBerry Z10 smartphone were only recently launched. BlackBerry has always been a company that releases multiple updates, striving to continually deliver the best possible experience for BlackBerry handset owners.
This recent software update so soon after the smartphone and operating system launch indicates that BlackBerry is serious about being a major player in the smartphone marketplace. The next BlackBerry 10 handset, the BlackBerry Q10, will deliver a physical QWERTY keyboard and release some time in April. The display on the BlackBerry Z10 is 4.2 inches, and that LCD screen delivers 1,280 x 768 pixel resolution. That means a hefty 356 pixels per inch, and the 1.5 GHz dual core central processor is joined by 2 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of internal storage, as well as a microSD card slot in the handset’s hardware package.
