bbz10bAnnounced in January, the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone hit the United States mobile marketplace in March of this year. Though the handset and a brand-new BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system have barely been out for seven weeks globally, that new operating system just hit the 100,000 application mark this week. The BlackBerry World storefront is where you can download free and paid applications for the BlackBerry Z10, and we would like to take a look at a few of the more popular and recent applications and games which have made their way to the newly revamped BlackBerry smartphone.

Tonga and the Cult of the Birdman (Marmalade), Ruzzle (MAG Interactive) and Let’s Golf! 3 (Gameloft) are three games that made their way to the handset recently, and Let’s Golf! 3 is the third-generation offering of a very popular mobile golf game. A new Japan course has been added called Cherry Blossom Gardens, and the free download game offers multiple play options from The Great Wall of China to outer space, all created in 3-D. Online and local Wi-Fi play supports up to four players at a time, and you can even chat with other players while enjoying hacking away at Let’s Golf! 3.

Another free download is The Wall Street Journal. You do have to have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal to access premium articles, but a free download gets you plenty of access to the latest news and in-depth analysis. CBS Sports now has a free downloadable sports application available for the BlackBerry Z10, promising “lightning fast scores, stats, and news for all major sports.” The large 4.20 inch display offers a one screen design, and the popular CBS GameTrackers are also accessible. All major sports scores are delivered, as well as news from CBS sports.

The handset immediately reached 1 million global units in sales quicker than analysts had predicted, and the BlackBerry Z10 LTE enabled smartphone is “the fastest, most advanced BlackBerry smartphone yet” according to BlackBerry, who has officially changed its name from RIM. Designed with a slim 0.35 inch (9.0 mm) profile and weighing in at a light 4.85 ounces (130 g), the Z10 offers a totally touchscreen driven 4.2 inch display with resolution of 768 by 1,280 pixels. More than 16 million pixels are delivered at the rate of 356 pixels per inch.

The system chip powering the handset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model, built around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. The handset uses an Adreno 225 GPU to handle all graphics processing, and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory are on board. The Z10 offers a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in data storage, as well as a microSD slot. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder.
