The BlackBerry Z10 from the Canadian smartphone manufacturer formally known as RIM recently combined with the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone for a total of 3 million units sold in the company’s first fiscal quarter. BlackBerry did not differentiate between the two units as far as how many of each were sold, and almost simultaneous with that announcement at least one online retailer has substantially discounted the handset. The company calls it the “fastest, most advanced BlackBerry smartphone yet,” and the Z10 is also slim and light. The new form factor delivers an entirely touchscreen driven user interface with no physical QWERTY keyboard, allowing the handset to measure just 0.35 inches (9.0 mm) in thickness. Weight runs just 4.85 ounces (130 g), a speedy dual core processor powers the handset, and the high resolution display is the largest found on any BlackBerry smartphone ever designed.
As mentioned above, the new BlackBerry Z10 offers no physical QWERTY keyboard. The iconic identifier of so many past BlackBerry smartphones, the physical keyboard gives way to an input type the company is simply naming BlackBerry Keyboard. The device actually learns your specific typing habits, and even remembers words you misspell frequently, helping to correct them as you type. Resolution on the large 4.20 inch display runs high at 768 by 1,280 pixels, as does pixel density at 356 pixels per inch.
More than 16 million individual colors can be found on that screen, which is navigated with capacitive, multitouch gestures. Special light and proximity sensors have been integrated into the screen, and they save battery power by automating display dimming and brightness adjustment. This helps the Blackberry Z10 handset’s 1,800 mA battery deliver up to 13.0 days of standby time and 10.0 hours of talk time from a single charge.
The BlackBerry Z10 is 4G LTE capable on Verizon’s network in the United States, which covers more than 440 major markets. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip includes a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as well as 16.0 GB of built-in closet space. A microSD slot has been added for storage expansion, and the premier camera on the handset is a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder.
