The Nokia Lumia 920 may be the hottest handset in the Windows Phone ecosystem at the moment but before the arrival of the current Nokia flagship, the talk of the smartphone town when it came to Windows Phone handsets was the Nokia Lumia 900. We remember the handset as the former flagship device of the Finnish manufacturer from yesteryears but the handset gain prominence when it snagged the top and third spots of an online reseller’s bestsellers list on the day it made its debut on the shelves – a day that fell on a Sunday and a National Holiday no less – a testament to the then popularity of the handset.
Now, the Nokia Lumia 900 is all but forgotten given the new breed of Windows Phone 8-powered handsets that hit the shelves late last year but the once flagship device of Nokia is not yet ready to kick the bucket. As it stands, it is now possible to have the bootloader of the Nokia Lumia 900 unlocked and with this development come the fact that custom ROMs can now be flashed onto the handset once the bootloader unlock process is completed.
Looking back, some of the devices that rolled off of Nokia’s assembly line were graced by custom ROMs but the Nokia Lumia 900 seems to be the exception. Up until this very moment, the bootloader of the handset hasn’t been cracked but there are reports out of Vietnam that claim that the Nokia Lumia 900 can also be “unshackled” for some custom ROM love.
For those interested in unlocking the bootloader of the Nokia Lumia 900 and having some sweet custom ROMs flashed onto the handset, we ask you to give it some thought. The process is way more advanced that you thought because the process requires that an ATF Box, a third-party device used in flashing Nokia handsets, be used and involves tearing the handset apart as well. Add to the fact that the instructions can be found in a Vietnamese phone forum and this could be more than you can handle.
Despite this, the Nokia Lumia 900 is still one capable handset despite its early retirement. It boasts of impressive components under its hood and is said to be the handset of choice if you want the best Windows Phone experience during its heydays. The circuitry of the Nokia Lumia 900 is built around its QualComm APQ8055 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC brings into the device a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor and 512 MB of RAM which work together to ensure the flawlessness of the handset’s performance and operation. Storage space onboard the device is rated at 16GB but this is all you get on the Nokia Lumia 900 because memory expansion is not supported on the device. Its display on the other hand is a 4.3-inch AMOLED panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
