When ASUS came out with the original Transformer, a lot of our tablet-crazed brethren became awed with the innovative design of the tablet which can be “transformed” to a netbook once the slate is hooked up to its keyboard dock. And with ASUS’ being famous as a manufacturer that is always on time when it comes to releasing updates to its many devices, it didn’t come as a surprise to see the original ASUS Transformer get a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system.
Despite the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, there were still a couple of bugs and issues in the tablet such as random reboots and unstable Wi-Fi connectivity. ASUS sought to rectify the situation through the roll out of software updates designed to take care of the said bugs and issues. This time around, ASUS is yet again releasing another software update for the original ASUS Transformer and its rollout will come via OTA so a notification should come up on our tablet to announce the availability of the said update. Though the official changelog for the software update is nowhere to be found, the bugfix update is said to crank up the build of the ASUS Transformer to 9.2.1.17. However, it was confirmed that this bugfix update should take care of a number of issues on the tablet and these include a fix for the random reboot issue and excessive battery drain. If you haven’t received the notification yet, you might want to head on over to Settings and to manually check for the update.
While waiting for the notification to come up, or for the update process to complete, we have the specs sheet of the ASUS Transformer below to keep you company.
The ASUS Transformer is no longer a spring chicken given the fact that the tablet was announced back in January of 2011. After the unveiling, the ASUS Transformer promptly dived back to obscurity until it finally made its debut in the shelves in April. The tablet is still bulky with its measurements of 271 x 171 x 13 mm and is also hefty at the same time with its catch weight of 680 grams.
Under the hood, the circuitry of the ASUS Transformer is built around an NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 chipset which brings dual-core capabilities to the tablet via its dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1 GHz. The system memory of the ASUS Transformer comes up to 1GB of RAM and the device was made available in 16GB and 32GB in terms of storage capacity. No worries though as the ASUS Transformer has a dedicated microSD card slot that enables a user to expand the onboard storage of the tablet. In erms of its display, the ASUS Transformer makes use of a scratch-resistant 10.1-inch IPS LCD display with LED backlighting and comes with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. it also comes outfitted with a 5MP autofocus shooter at its back panel and a 1.2MP video chat webcam out front.
